Athletic Finger Tape

Climbers go through finger tape constantly. They wrap their fingers with it to protect raw skin from sharp rock and rough plastic gym holds, to cover splits and tears that would otherwise end a session, to support strained tendons and joints, and sometimes just to add a tiny bit of extra grip on a slick handhold. A serious climber buys tape the way most people buy printer ink — never ceremonially, always slightly out of it, and always glad to have a fresh roll.

This is Friction Labs's version, which is to say it's the climbing-brand-respected version of what would otherwise be a generic athletic tape. 1.5 inches wide, 10 yards per roll, made from zinc oxide. It tears cleanly by hand (no scissors required), holds its stick through a whole sweaty session, and doesn't crumble off after the first move. The packaging is recyclable, which Friction Labs cares about more than most companies do.

It's not a glamorous gift on its own, but it's the kind of small, useful thing that makes a great stocking stuffer or thrown-in extra alongside a bigger present — and unlike a lot of "useful" gifts, this one is genuinely going to get used within a week. Friction Labs is a brand climbers recognize, so it'll feel intentional rather than random.

Cheap, practical, and reliably welcome. Starts at $9.49.
