<p>A chalk ball is a small porous cotton pouch packed full of climbing chalk. Instead of dunking their hand into loose powder, the climber just pats or squeezes the ball and a fine layer of chalk dusts onto their fingers. Less mess, less airborne dust drifting around the gym, and — an important detail — many climbing gyms only allow chalk in ball form (no loose chalk allowed on the ground or in chalk bags).
